Eti-zolam is a thiadiazepine derivative and is a benzodiazepine analog. The Eti-zolam molecule differs from the benzodiazepine in that the phenyl ring is replaced by a thiophene ring and the triazole ring has been fused such that the drug becomes thienodiazadiazepine. It has forgotten, anti-anxiety, anticonvulsant, hypnotic, sedative and skeletal muscle relaxation properties. It was patented in 1972 and approved for medical use in 1983.
